green fluorescent protein (сокр. GFP)белок, синтезируемый отдельными видами медуз, который флуоресцирует зеленым цветом под воздействием УФ-света. Ген, кодирующий З.ф.б., в сочетании с различными регуляторными (промоторными) элементами широко используется в качестве репортерного гена в экспериментах на культурах клеток и при работе с трансгенными организмами. З.ф.б. малотоксичен для клеток, устойчив к действию протеиназ и высоких температур, не инактивируется под действием детергентов, оказывает минимальное влияние на подвижность и локализацию гибридного белка-партнера. Все это делает его удобным для использования в генно-инженерных конструкциях. З.ф.б. дикого типа обладает двумя максимумами возбуждения (395 и 470 нм). Путем мутации (замена одной аминокислоты) был получен улучшенный З.ф.б. (максимум только при 488 нм) (англ. EGFP). З.ф.б. обнаружен О. Cимомурой с соавт. в 1962 г. у люминесцирующей медузы Aequorea victoria (Нобелевская премия за 2008 г. совместно с М. Чалфи и Р. Тсиеном). Ген, кодирующий З.ф.б., клонирован в 1992 г. Д. Прашером с соавт. В дальнейшем С. Лукьяновым с соавт. из кораллов класса Anthozoa получены белки, подобные З.ф.б., флюоресцирующие в зеленой, желтой и красной областях спектра.см. также флуорохромТолковый биотехнологический словарь.
